End-to-End Connectivity and National Voice Interconnection
The establishment of national voice interconnection arrangements between local providers is a key enabler for end-to-end connectivity between end-users on different networks and also to ensure that numbers in the Maltese National Numbering Plan can be reached by calling parties in accordance with providers' responsibilities stemming from the National Numbering Conventions.
Within this context, the MCA supported the sector-wide transition from legacy TDM-based voice interconnection (TDMvIC) to IP-based voice interconnection (IPvIC). Following consultation with local providers of voice communications services, the MCA published the Specification Document - Framework for the Migration from TDM-based to IP-based Voice Interconnection. The document establishes common technical and procedural parameters for IP-based voice interconnection arrangements at a national level.
