European Commission launches Public Consultation on protection of minors online under the Digital Services Act
The European Commission has initiated a public consultation on draft guidelines aimed at enhancing the online protection of minors under the Digital Services Act (DSA). These guidelines are designed to assist online platforms in implementing measures that ensure a high level of privacy, safety, and security for children, in alignment with the DSA's requirements.
Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the Commission's public consultation to contribute to the development of these guidelines. Feedback can be submitted through the Commission's consultation platform until 10th June 2025.
In Malta, the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) serves as the designated Digital Services Coordinator (DSC) under the DSA. In this role, the MCA is responsible for overseeing the application and enforcement of the DSA in Malta and represents the country on the European Board for Digital Services.
The Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) has been officially designated as a trusted flagger by the MCA. This designation acknowledges FSWS's proficiency in detecting and reporting online content that poses risks to minors, such as material related to child sexual abuse. As a trusted flagger, FSWS's reports are prioritised by online platforms, facilitating more efficient removal of harmful content.
