Why is quantum communications so different from the "classical" means of communications one is accustomed to nowadays? This was the theme behind an interesting discussion Dr André Xuereb, Lecturer at the University of Malta, held with MCA staff. The discussion delved into the endless opportunities that quantum communications has to offer in the communications domain.
Quantum communications promises data transmissions at higher rates and super-secure channels that make eavesdropping impossible. Dr Xuereb gave an overview of the weird features of quantum mechanics highlighting technology that is already in use, and on-going research at the University of Malta and elsewhere.
