MCA Annual Conference 2009: 'DIGITAL TV'
Start Date: 30.10.09
End Date: 30.10.09
The MCA Annual Conference will be held on Friday the 30th of October 2009 at the Westin Dragonara Resort Hotel. This year's theme will be ‘Digital TV’.

Preamble

The impact of the migration to digital in the field of broadcasting is as radical, in terms of impact, as it has been in all the sectors subject to an earlier transformation. The transformation is bringing about a revolution in the broadcasting sector, opening different platforms to content and increasing the potential of current broadcasting spectrum.

The migration from analogue to digital in the broadcasting field will be completed over the next few years. Ensuring that this change brings benefits to all stakeholders would appear to be an easy matter - digital TV offers more efficiency and better quality. These characteristics translate into more capacity for broadcasters to offer more and better services, and a better choice for viewers. Digital TV also presents new opportunities such as High Definition (HD) and interactivity. A whole new industry, from production to consumption equipment and services, is emerging as a result of this migration.

However, inevitably, migration raises several issues. These must be successfully addressed if the migration is to be successfully managed, and the resultant benefits enjoyed by all.

Objective

The aim of the annual conference is to provide answers to questions that this new order of things poses, including:

· Will terrestrial broadcasting continue to be a popular means of conveyance in the digital environment?

· What are the implications of Digital Switchover? Where is the digital dividend? Who will benefit from it?

· What are the main challenges to the industry in an environment characterised by more players, more media channels, competing technologies, more content distribution platforms, competing modes of entertainment and just 24 hours in a day?

· What are the opportunities for content producers made possible by digital technology?

· What are the new and emerging technologies and which business models are better suited to exploit such technologies?

· How is the consumer impacted by all this bombardment of technology and audiovisual media?

This year’s MCA annual conference will bring together an exciting array of renowned international experts who will address these and at the same time, inform and entertain the audience.

Audience

This conference is aimed at primarily a local audience representing:

· Businesses in general, including manufacturers, retailers, suppliers etc

· Pay TV providers, network operators and broadcast content providers

· Government agencies

· Electronic communications service providers

· Consultancy firms

· Software developers

· Students

Approximately 150 to 200 delegates are anticipated to attend. More details will be published shortly.
